I fell in love with Nordic walking which is a whole body workout. I felt the benefits after a few sessions in my health, posture and increased fitness. I have a passion to help people improve health fitness and went on to further Advance Instructor Nordic Walking training to help people with injuries and limited mobility. I have continued with further training over the years including Tai Chi for Movements and Diploma in Mindfulness.
After 2 surgeries for breast cancer I took up Nordic walking initially to get my health and weight back on track. After the first lesson I was completely hooked and came to enjoy exercising outdoors in all weathers.
As well as the great physical benefits of Nordic walking, what I didn’t expect was the amazing impact on my mental wellbeing with walking in a regular group, forging new friendships with like minded people, whilst discovering beautiful countryside.
Within a year I took on my first ever 10k challenge and became a walk leader and later I trained to become an instructor. More recently I explored a Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy course which led on to finishing the graduates coaching and I now enjoy leading a monthly mindful nordic walk along with a varied programme of walks and classes.
As an Instructor I hope to bring the same love of Nordic walking to others, its a fantastic way to help lead a healthy, active and happy life.
Pam worked in a health club but wasn’t keen on the gym and was looking for something different, She saw an advert about Nordic Walking and thought that it ticked a lot of boxes for her.
So seven years later Pam is still enjoying Nordic Walking. In 2018 she became a walk leader, she is good at remembering routes and map reading which helps. Pam leads a 2 hour social walk on a Friday morning and covers instructors walks when needed. During a discussion with an instructor, they were looking at how they could grow the club and offer Tasters, Learn to Nordic walk’s and classes in another area. Pam saw this as an opportunity for her to become an instructor so she signed up for the course.
Pam’s highlights over her Nordic walking years, She saw a kingfisher on the River Ver. (the only one she has ever seen), She has made some wonderful friends who are like an extended family, she wouldn’t have met them if she hadn’t taken up Nordic Walking. Pam feels that she is fitter and has more stamina since taking up nordic walking.
“hailing” from the North West Donegal in Ireland, I was lucky to live by an amazing costal area. Come rain or shine it was an incredible place to walk. Hertfordshire is no where near the sea but since joining St Albans Nordic Walking I have been able to experience fantastic places with wonderful people who also enjoy walking. I am grateful to my friend for introducing me to this new exercise.
